Do Now: Read the following and use the info for your menus

Nature gives us great clues as to what foods help what part of our body! Amazing!

For instance:
carrot.jpg A sliced Carrot looks like the human eye. The pupil, iris and radiating lines look just like the human eye…and YES science now shows that carrots greatly enhance blood flow to and function of the eyes.
tomatoes A Tomato has four chambers and is red. The heart is red and has four chambers. All of the research shows tomatoes are indeed pure heart and blood food.
grapes Grapes hang in a cluster that has the shape of the heart. Each grape looks like a blood cell and all of the research today shows that grapes are also profound heart and blood vitalizing food.
walnut.jpg A Walnut looks like a little brain, a left and right hemisphere, upper cerebrums and lower cerebelums. Even the wrinkles or folds are on the nut just like the neo-cortex. We now know that walnuts help develop over 3 dozen neuro-transmitters for brain function.
kidneybeans Kidney Beans actually heal and help maintain kidney function and yes, they look exactly like the human kidneys.
celery.jpg Celery, Bok Choy, Rhubarb and more look just like bones. These foods specifically target bone strength. Bones are 23% sodium and these foods are 23% sodium. If you don’t have enough sodium in your diet the body pulls it from the bones, making them weak. These foods replenish the skeletal needs of the body.

avocardo.jpg Egg Plant, Avocadoes and Pears target the health and function of the womb and cervix of the female – they look just like these organs. Today’s research shows that when a woman eats 1 avocado a week, it balances hormones, sheds unwanted birth weight and prevents cervicle cancers. And how profound is this? …. it takes exactly 9 months to grow an Avocado from blossom to ripened fruit. There are over 14,000 phytolytic chemical constituents of nutrition in each one of these foods (modern science has only studied and named about 141 of them).

.

Kumura Sweet Potatoes look like the pancreas and actually balance the glycemic index of diabetics.
olives Olives assist the health and function of the ovaries
citrus Grapefruits, Oranges, and other Citrus fruits look just like the mamary glands of the female and actually assist the health of the breasts and the movement of lymph in and out of the breasts.

onions Onions look like body cells. Todays research shows that onions help clear waste materials from all of the body cells. They even produce tears which wash the epithelial lasyers of the eyes

Welcome to the 2nd Semester!

I am happy to be able to work with you on graphic design, media editing and sharing, and beginning programming.

Our curriculum is pretty open. I want you to have a range of useful skills that you will need in your personal and business life. I want to expand your appreciation and ability in the arts- both traditional and new media. I want us to foster an engaging, supportive, and fun learning environment. What do you want to gain from this class?

Do Now: If you do not have a gmail address, create one now. ALL STUDENTS: Send me an email (mirandagt2014@gmail.com) and outline what you would like to learn in this semester of visual arts, as well as 3 things that are important to you or about you.

Classwork:
Explore http://www.panoramio.com/
Begin looking at these photos from around the world. Once you find a couple that you love, start to explore the country/city that they are from. You have several choices on how to go from here:
  1. Create a series of postcards from the place including written accounts of what you did there (http://www.teachervision.fen.com/images/tv/ppoint/Postcard.ppt) or through Google Documents->Drawing
  2. Create a travel brochure highlighting things to do and places to stay/eat (http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/templates/travel-brochure-8-1-2-x-14-landscape-4-fold-TC001051721.aspx)
  3. Download Google's 3D modeling software SKETCH-UP (http://sketchup.google.com/intl/en/download/index.html) to your desktop. Play around with the tools. See if there are any 3D models of buildings from the city you chose. See if you can begin building a 3D model of a building.
  4. Experiment with Google Drawing (in Documents). Can you recreate the photo using the tools available? Probably not. Try http://pixlr.com/editor/
Closure: Make sure you save your work and have sent the Do Now email.

Homework: Bring in something that you found visually interesting. It can be 3D (object), 2D (photo, magazine, flyer), or take a picture with your phone of something in your environment. Think about what makes it striking (color, line, composition, etc).

Friday, January 27, 2012

Congratulations!!!

You made it through your first NHD competition.

For your end of term self assessment please:

  1. Give yourself a grade for effort. What did you learn about revolutions, reforms, reactions? What did you learn about putting together a website, performance, documentary, paper, or exhibit? What problems did you encounter? What were your successes? What did you learn about the research and writing process?
  2. Give yourself a grade for your final project. Justify why you deserve this grade (Stayed after school, judges comments from yesterday, how your final product looks, etc)
Email all this information to mirandagt2014@gmail.com (DUE BY 9PM tonight!)

The more you write, and more convincing your argument, the more I will consider the grade you give yourself in your final grade.

FAILURE TO COMPLETE THIS SELF ASSESSMENT MEANS YOU GIVE YOURSELF AN F
