Students will continue to research and write about their NHD topic for essay due on MON NOV 22.

DO NOW: Review expectations for topic selection essay and easybib sources.

Classwork: Work on Topic selection essay- research and writing.

Assessment: By end of class, email mirandagt2014@gmail.com with
  1. SOurces/links to your research so far
  2. At least one paragraph summary of your topic (can be introduction to paper or what you have written so far for NHD essay)

TOPIC SELECTION ESSAY (DUE MON NOV 22)

Write a 3-5 page research paper (12-point font, 1-inch margins) on your proposed topic choice that relates to the 2009-10 NHD Theme. This research paper will be called your topic selection essay.

Step One: Read this year’s theme reading and select your Innovation in History.

Step Two: Research and write topic selection essay.

1. What topic would you like to build a project about?

· What happened?

· When did it happen?

· Where did it happen?

· Who is credited for this debate or diplomacy?

2. What major impact and change in history did this topic have?

§ What was the problem your topic was attempting to solve?

§ Who agreed?

§ Who disagreed?

§ Was it a success, failure, or both?

§ What immediate effect on the country did it have?

§ What long-term change happened as a result of your topic?

§ Can we still see its legacy today?

Step Three: Prepare an annotated bibliography of 5-10 sources in MLA format.

Step Four: Hand essay in on time. Essay due on FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 19

Grading: This essay will be the first major examination grade of the second marking period in English, Social Studies, and Art History/Technology (if you have it).

Classwork: Continue working on your Topic Selection Essay. For Today and Wednesday, complete the Who, What, When, Where portion of the research.

OBJECTIVES:

2. Students will begin writing their topic selection essay through research on each question.

3. Students will use easybib.com to maintain and share their bibliography with partners and staff.
